MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Metropolitan School District has cancelled all their evening programming and activities scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, after a snowstorm dumped about five inches of heavy, wet snow on the area Friday morning.

In an announcement posted to their website, school officials said they had consulted local meteorologists, transportation officials, and neighboring school districts to make the decision.
Travel conditions and adverse winter weather were the main drivers for the cancellation, and included all facility rentals with MSCR.
School officials also said school transportation delays may occur.
Friday morning, multiple crashes and delays led to backed-up morning commutes for drivers across southern Wisconsin. Snowy conditions and multiple minor crashes along the Beltline caused wide-reaching traffic delays throughout rush hour.
One crash on the westbound Beltline near Whitney Way, which was cleared around 8:15 a.m., caused backups as far as Rimrock Road. Minor crashes on the eastbound Beltline also caused backups stretching west to Gammon Road, according to WisDOT’s 511 traffic map.
