DICKEYVILLE, Wis. — One person suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash involving two semi-trucks near Dickeyville Friday morning, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. on U.S. Highway 151 near Hill Climb Road.
In a news release, the sheriff’s office said a 39-year-old driver from Colorado in a 2019 Freightliner semi-truck was passing another semi-truck while heading north on Highway 151 when they lost control and went into the median. The truck jack-knifed and ended up in the southbound lanes of the highway, where a 61-year-old driver from Watertown behind the wheel of a 2022 Freightliner semi-truck crashed into the first semi.
Both trucks were heavily damaged and blocked the southbound lanes of the highway for roughly four hours, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver from Colorado suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in Dubuque before being moved to a hospital in Iowa City. The driver from Watertown suffered minor injuries.
Snowy and icy conditions played a role in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
