WATERTOWN, Wis. — A day after learning about a fire that killed three people in Watertown, some members of that community rallied to raise money for the victims.
The coordinator of Saturday’s Watertown Winter Market Kassi Oxford said the community felt an immense loss. During the holiday season, she said it couldn’t be a better time to give back to the family who lost so much.
“Anyone you spoke to in Watertown said how awful and tragic it is and how they want to help,” said Oxford “As a mother, I couldn’t imagine going through something like that. As a community, we want to let them know that they are not alone.”
The support at the market came through financial donations. From the proceeds of the raffle and food at the market on Saturday, 50 percent will go to Watertown Family Aid, and the other half will go directly to the family impacted by the deadly fire
“I just hope it brings some peace and stability to the family,” said Oxford. “Takes something off their plate.”
For Oxford, she’s hoping that every dollar can help those who are now suffering during a time of year mean to be celebrating.
“This is the most tragic time for something like this to happen. It’s really brought the community together, even if it’s in a bad way,” said Oxford.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up to support the family.
