MADISON, Wis. — The trial of a Diocese of Madison pastoral associate in the DeForest parish who is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a teenager is set to begin in February.
Online court records show jury selection in the trial of Rajnal Rehmat, 31, will begin on Feb. 27. The trial is set to begin on Feb. 28.
Rehmat is charged with one count of child enticement and one count of sexual assault of a child by a person who works with children. During a hearing Tuesday he pleaded not guilty.
He is accused of sending a teenage parishioner suggestive messages and asking her for explicit photos. He allegedly met the teen at a park where groping and other inappropriate sexual contact occurred.
The Diocese of Madison put Rehmat on administrative leave on Nov. 28 upon learning of the accusations.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Rehmat’s bond was modified to prohibit him from visiting St. Olaf Catholic Church in DeForest or St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sun Prairie.
