MADISON, Wis. — Madison Streets Division crews will be out and about Wednesday night to keep roads clear.
A storm system is expected to change from rain to snow overnight, impacting the Thursday morning commute. Streets Division officials said 36 trucks will be deployed at midnight to keep roads passable.
That includes salting and plowing main roads across Madison, including ones used by Madison Metro and around schools and hospitals. Crews will also apply sand to slick areas like hills, curves and intersections.
Bryan Johnson of the Madison Streets Division says he expects Thursday morning’s commute to look very similar to last Friday, when the last snow system caused plenty of headaches for drivers. He says this time, his team is hoping the worst of this storm passes through before the morning commute.
“Instead of all of us trying to get through all at the same time, where the plows are stuck in the same traffic as everybody else,” Johnson said.
Drivers should still be cautious and watch for slick spots across town on Thursday. Slick conditions could last into Friday.
“Snow is never easy, sometimes the weather just wins, I guess you could say,” Johnson said. “We’ll do the best we can to deal with it.”
