ADAMS COUNTY, Wis. — An Adams County deputy is on administrative leave and the Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating after a deputy shot at a suspect during an altercation Wednesday night.
Officers were called to a home in the town of New Chester just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, where the critical incident happened, according to a press release from the DOJ.
The deputy was responding to a domestic disturbance during which the suspect was allegedly holding a knife.
The release said the deputy fired his gun, hitting the suspect and sending him to the hospital.
That man is in stable condition as of Thursday morning.
The DOJ said it is investigating the case and will turn over its work to the Adams County District Attorney for review once it is concluded.
