MADISON, Wis. — Drivers only have a few more days to use the Merrimac Ferry before it shuts down for winter.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says the ferry, which shuttles traffic from State Highway 113 across the Wisconsin River between Columbia and Sauk Counties, will close for the season at 7 a.m. on Monday, December 19.
Transportation officials say the ferry will undergo routine maintenance during the winter and will resume operations sometime in the spring.
So far this year, the Merrimac Ferry has carried a total of 164,984 vehicles, 860 bikes, 650 pedestrians, 32 buses and 4,466 motorcycles in 55,758 trips across the river.
