MADISON, Wis. — For University of Wisconsin-Madison students with on-campus jobs and late final exams, storm conditions on Thursday are leaving them stuck on the university’s campus.
“It’s probably the worst weather at the time when we all have to drive home,” junior Nick Charlton said.
With campus still open, final exams and student jobs are operating as normal.

The last time the campus closed for heavy snow was in 2012, but the university told News 3 Now in a statement earlier this week that canceling exams would not be possible for Thursday’s finals.
“Us student workers, we have to stick around until the chancellor closes stuff,” senior Hernan Bellard said. “We’re just doing what the university wants us to do at the moment and we’re waiting to see if anything changes.”
But for students who had exams late Wednesday and Thursday, road conditions have made it a challenge to get back home.
The university told students they could stay through the storm but would have to find their own meals. Some students said they’re concerned that with more snow coming, conditions could be too dangerous to drive on and off campus.
“I think it would be in the best interest of everybody’s safety to probably just shut everything down tomorrow,” Bellard said.
Charlton, who is from Chicago, said he’s hopeful that he’ll be able to make it home for the holidays and is waiting for the first opportunity to get on the road.
“It’s a little lonely, but we’ll get home soon hopefully,” Charlton said.
