MADISON, Wis. — Officials at UW Health say they are getting approval to move forward with plans to add a new surgery center on Madison’s east side.
The University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Authority Board voted Thursday to move forward with the plan, which would create a new ambulatory surgery center at UW Health’s East Madison Hospital (formerly referred to as UW Health at The American Center).
“We’re excited to take this important step to expand access to our remarkable care with a new ambulatory surgical center,” UW Health Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Pete Newcomer said in a statement Thursday. “We are eager to meet the growing needs of our community and look forward to sharing additional details.”
UW Health Press Secretary Emily Kumlien says the facility will help address a growing — and currently unmet — need for more surgical services in southern Wisconsin, while adding a convenient local option for patients in the area.
The new surgery center is expected to open in 2024.
