MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority announced a new round of grants Tuesday meant to support emergency shelters, transitional residences, and extremely low-income housing.
The grants, totaling just over$2 million, were awarded to 54 organizations around the state. The investment is funded by WHEDA reserves and the American Rescue Plan Act. WHEDA officials said the move will create or improve 1,764 beds and housing units in Wisconsin.
“Ensuring individuals have safe housing is essential to the health, wellness, and success of our kids and families, workers, and communities,” Gov. Tony Evers said in a statement. “WHEDA and our state’s nonprofit housing partners have been critical to advancing this important work.”
A number of local organizations received grants, including Porchlight, Inc., which received $50,000 for window replacements. The Dane County Housing Authority was also awarded $50,000.
