MADISON, Wis. — Flight cancellations are the unfortunate new trend sweeping the nation at the moment, due to a powerful winter storm.
Around 4,000 U.S. flights were canceled Monday, including 2,900 Southwest flights. The U.S. Department of Transportation is even looking into Southwest’s cancellations.

The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau gave some tips Tuesday on what to do if your flight was canceled.
Most airlines have their own policies for cancelations and delays, but it’s always a good idea to save receipts for extra expenses, like, a hotel room. You may be able to submit the receipts to the airline or your credit card company for reimbursement.
If your flight is canceled, you are entitled to a full refund. That includes baggage fees. If the airline offers the refund as a voucher instead of a cash refund, ask about expiration dates and blackouts. You are not obligated to take a voucher refund, and can ask for a cash refund instead.
