MADISON, Wis. — A not guilty plea was entered Wednesday for a man accused of killing a 39-year-old woman in eastern Dane County last year.
Jose Luis Gonzalez, Sr. is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Dora Gonzalez Zarate. Online court records show he stood mute during an arraignment hearing and his bail was continued.

Gonzalez is accused of killing Zarate in her home. She was found on May 24, 2022 with a gunshot wound to her head.
According to a criminal complaint, Gonzalez and Zarate were in a romantic relationship she was trying to get out of. Gonzalez reportedly left Wisconsin in the days following Zarate’s death, and was arrested in Delaware in August.
