JANESVILLE, Wis. — Police in Janesville arrested a woman who they said intentionally smeared blood on an officer while she was being arrested Tuesday night.
Officers got a call about an argument inside a home on Park Avenue around 9 p.m. Tuesday and responded to the scene. When they arrived, San Juanita Perez, 24, of Janesville, shut the door on them, police said in a news release. Perez was out on bond and was not allowed to be at the home or have contact with the man who lived there.
When more officers got to the scene, one of them reportedly saw her leaving the home through the backyard. When she saw the officer, Perez ran but stopped when they yelled at her to do so, the release said.
As the officer was handcuffing Perez, they noticed she was bleeding on her finger and told her not to get blood on them. According to the release, Perez turned around and smeared blood on the officer’s face “in what seemed to be an attempt to stick her bloody finger in the officer’s mouth.”
A second officer helped the first take Perez into custody. The officer who had blood smeared on them was treated for blood exposure.
Perez faces six charges from the incident, including a felony charge of throwing/discharging bodily fluid at a public safety worker or prosecutor, online court records show. During a court appearance Wednesday afternoon, Perez had a cash bond set at $250 with a number of conditions.
Perez is set to appear in court for an adjourned initial appearance next Wednesday afternoon.
