JANESVILLE, Wis. — Mercyhealth has reopened Mercyhealth South Urgent Care on Janesville’s south side, making urgent care services more widely available in the area.
Jared Stahlecker is a medical doctor at Mercyhealth South. He says the purpose of reopening the facility is to improve access to urgent care that was lost during the pandemic.
The facility closed during the COVID-19 pandemic because it was difficult to keep up with changes from in-person to telehealth services.
“As time has gone by, we’ve seen the volume go up for in-person urgent care need, so we thought it was time to open back up for urgent care,” said Stahlecker.
With this reopening, urgent care services are now available on Janesville’s north, east and south sides of town. Stahlecker says it’s an area that’s in need of the type of care that’s available there.
“We’re kind of actually in an urgent care desert at the moment,” said Stahlecker. “Mercy South seems to be the only urgent care in the area for the south side of town and then northern Beloit. It’s nice to be able to get the patients here in our clinic and in the surrounding area the opportunities to be seen.”
Other services available at this location include concussion management, family medicine, gynecology, laboratory, musculoskeletal ultrasound, imaging, obstetrics, pediatrics, primary care, radiology, sports medicine, and women’s health.
“Anything that if you say ‘Hey, should I see a doctor?’ that needs to be seen today, that’s what our facility is open for,” said Stahlecker.
Urgent care services are appropriate for non-emergent illnesses or injuries that may come up anytime. For life-threatening emergencies, patients should visit an emergency room or call 911.
Mercyhealth South Urgent Care is located at 849 Kellogg Ave. in Janesville and is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
