GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers will donate Automatic External Defibrillators to sports leagues and facilities throughout Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The move comes after Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin sufferered a cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. First responders and medical professionals are credited with saving his life.
“After seeing Damar Hamlin’s shocking cardiac arrest…we recognized our responsibility to take action in our own community,” Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said. “Damar’s injury also reminds us that cardiac emergencies are experienced each day throughout the country and our region.”
The Packers partnered with Bellin Health to provide 80 AEDs to local sports leagues and facilities, and provide training sessions on how to use the defibrillators. Bellin will also provide annual equipment checks to make sure the AEDS stay in working order.
Team officials also said they are working to offer a large-scale public CPR and AED training opportunity at Lambeau Field in the coming months.
