A Dubuque man who possessed or distributed more than a pound of ice methamphetamine was sentenced Tuesday to more than seven years in federal prison. Matthew Birch was given the 7-year, 11-month sentence in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Birch also must serve four years of supervised release following his prison term. A report says Birch sold about 0.4 pounds of ice methamphetamine in Dubuque between 2019 and 2021. Law enforcement officers seized another 0.7 pounds before Birch had the opportunity to sell it.
