UW-La Crosse will offer reduced tuition for UW-Richland students whose campus is effectively going dark soon. In November, UW System President Jay Rothman ordered UW-Platteville to stop offering degree programs at the UW-Richland campus, citing financial pressure and low enrollment. That decision affected roughly 60 students.Platteville’s transition plan for those current students focused heavily on an online approach, allowing Richland students who haven’t finished their degrees to take up to 40 credits at Platteville or at the university’s Baraboo-Sauk County campus. Friday, UW-La Crosse announced that after Richland students reached out to Chancellor Joe Gow during a Board of Regents meeting, the university will offer help. Newly enrolled undergraduates from Richland County with less than 60 credits earned will be eligible for a discounted rate that university officials say will save them $1,505 per semester.
