A Dubuque man has pleaded guilty in federal court to a weapons charge. 48 year old Eric Thomas entered the plea in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids to a charge of possession of a firearm as a prohibited person, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa. The release states that Thomas admitted in his plea agreement to owning a loaded gun, along with a mixture of heroin and fentanyl. Federal court documents state that the gun was found in Thomas’ possession on Jan. 23. Thomas potentially faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison and a possible life sentence.
