A stretch of Washington Street in downtown Dubuque is closed until further notice as crews investigate and work to repair a sinkhole. Washington Street is fully closed from Seventh Street to Ninth Street, and parking will not be available along this section of road until further notice. A release states that motorists should use a different route or follow the posted detour. At about 4pm Wednesday, about 10 city employees stood around a sinkhole opening about the size of a manhole in front of the former Jeld-Wen building on Eighth Street, roping off the area. Crews were completing routine sewer maintenance in the area when the truck started sinking and workers noticed the sinkhole opening under the truck. They immediately moved the vehicle and closed the road to traffic.
