Dubuque City Council members voted, 7-0, to approve implementing a fee to use city-owned electric vehicle charging stations. The city currently operates three electric vehicle charging stations at the Intermodal Parking Facility, with two more to be installed in the community in the future. The stations have been free to use since their installation in 2015, but the city now will require users to pay 17 cents per kilowatt hour charged. Officials said the fees will cover the cost of maintaining the chargers and pay for a new state-imposed excise tax of 2.6 cents per kilowatt hour on charging stations on non-residential properties.
