The UW-Platteville Richland campus will close next year, Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman announced Tuesday amid continued financial pressures. “It’s time for us to realign our branch campuses to current market realities and prepare for the future,” Rothman said. “The status quo is not sustainable.” In-person classes at the Richland campus were discontinued in July due to financial and enrollment issues. About 64 students and 25 employees were forced to move to either UW-Platteville’s main campus or its Baraboo campus. Rothman said in-person classes would also end in June 2024 at UW-Milwaukee at Washington County and UW-Oshkosh, Fond du Lac campus. Students at those campuses will be offered enrollment options at other schools. The goal is for branch campus chancellors to have a firmer plan for the future in place by spring of next year.
