A proposed housing development advanced by the Dubuque City Council this week is being opposed by potential neighbors. Residents living in Dubuque’s Point neighborhood urged City Council members at their meeting this week to oppose a project to construct a 201-unit apartment complex on Hawthorne Street, the location of the former Bowling and Beyond. Residents living near the city-owned property said the development would bring increased neighborhood vehicle traffic, causing safety risks for children walking to school. They said the property should be used as a community recreation space and that they believe the proposed project does not conform to the overall character of the community.
