Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis railed against bureaucratic “red tape” during a stop in Dubuque on Saturday ahead of the impending Iowa caucuses. Speaking to a crowd of roughly 200 at Gary Dolphin’s Iron Bar, the Florida governor name-dropped federal agencies such as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration and more while calling out what he referred to as cumbersome or “non-essential” aspects of the federal government. He pointed to his home state of Florida, which has a lower ratio of state employees per population compared to most other states and is actively paying down debt. If elected, he swore to take those policies national.
