A man accused of hitting and killing a seventh grade student in Reedsburg pleaded not guilty in court Thursday. 18 year old Kevin Green is charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle in the death of 13 year old Evelyn Gurney. A criminal complaint said Gurney was waiting for a school bus last May when Green was driving on highway 33. He swerved toward a ditch, hit the back of the school bus, then hit her while she was standing in her driveway. Green told a deputy he was not on his phone at the time of the crash. However, the criminal complaint stated phone data shows he was texting while driving before and during the crash. A scheduling conference in Green’s case is set for April.
