Wisconsin homeowner assistance program to end in March

A state program that helped Wisconsinites in danger of being foreclosed on will soon end. Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Administration Kathy Blumenfeld said the Wisconsin Help for Homeowners (WHH) program will close applications on March 8. In two years, the program gave Wisconsinites close to $70 million to prevent foreclosure through mortgage, tax, and utility payments. The program also provided housing counseling. In its life, WHH served over 8,600 households in all 72 counties. On average, households received $8,438 in assistance. WHH was funded by the Homeowners Assistance Fund established under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Applications are being accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 8. Benefits will be paid to the extent that funding remains available, and financial assistance is not guaranteed.
