Detours For Road Construction Project in Galena

The Illinois Department of Transportation says work on a road improvement project in Galena will necessitate detours. Weather permitting, traffic changes related to reconstruction work on U.S. Highway 20/Illinois Highway 84 — known as Spring Street as it passes through Galena — will resume today. The changes are part of a $31.5 million project to reconstruct the road between Main Street and Gear Street. Eastbound U.S. Highway20/Illinois Highway 84 traffic will be detoured onto Gear and Bench streets, while westbound traffic will remain on U.S. Highway 20/Illinois Highway 84. Work this year will reconstruct U.S. Highway 20/Illinois Highway 84 from West Street to Gear Street. Improvements include new concrete pavement; curbs and gutters; storm sewers; sidewalks and a shared use path; relocated water and sanitary facilities and retaining walls. This phase, the final phase in a multi-year reconstruction project, is anticipated to be completed by fall.
