The U.S. Coast Guard has ended its prohibition on recreational boating on the Mississippi River near Dubuque, though boaters are still advised to take “extreme caution.” The Coast Guard previously implemented a prohibition on recreational boating between Guttenberg and Bellevue in response to rising river levels and reports of large debris being carried downstream. Per a recent announcement from the city of Dubuque, that prohibition has now ended as the river recedes, but recreational boating still is heavily discouraged around Dubuque until river levels return to normal. The Mississippi River is forecast to move below the ‘minor flood’ stage of 17 feet by early Saturday.
