A subcommittee trying to figure out a solution to Platteville’s pool problem had its first meeting this week. The aquatic recreation subcommittee of the city’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation Committee met Monday. While it was largely an informational meeting, the members have already gotten to work on the next steps of addressing the city’s pool closure. In May, the city announced that the Platteville Aquatic Center would remain closed for the summer. The pool experienced catastrophic cracking in its walls when it was being filled. For years, the pool had been experiencing cracking and leaking, resulting in the Common Council spending money on repairs last year — but the damage had already been done. The pool at University of Wisconsin-Platteville has been used for trainings, lessons and open swim. A plan is to get a survey out as soon as possible where respondents will be asked what they generally want to see from a new pool.
