The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced Tuesday it will provide free well water testing for nitrate at Farm Technology Days, from Aug. 13-15. The DNR said interested participants should bring one cup of well water in a clean container, which will then be screened for nitrate, a common health-related contaminant. Results will be available in as little as a few minutes, providing private well owners with an alternative to the often lengthy process of mailing a water sample and getting results mailed back. The DNR said private well owners will have the opportunity to get their water tested, ask questions to DNR staff, and receive recommendations for additional testing if necessary.
