Authorities say two people were airlifted following a one-vehicle crash in Lafayette County Sunday. 20 year old Darlin Moncada-Ortez and 17 year old Maycol Rodriguez, both of Darlington, were both airlifted to UW Health University Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, Moncado-Ortez and Rodriguez were traveling north on County Highway F at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday when their vehicle left the roadway and entered the gravel shoulder. The vehicle then crossed the southbound lane of travel and struck a guardrail and bridge abutment of the bridge that crosses Otter Creek. The vehicle came to a rest on the bridge, and both occupants of the vehicle were partially ejected. Moncada-Ortez initially was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County before being airlifted. Rodriguez was airlifted from the scene. Authorities are investigating the crash. A release states that speed, alcohol and a failure to wear a seatbelt may have contributed to the crash and the severity of the injuries.
