Authorities said one person was taken to a hospital after a crash around 6:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 20, west of South Willow Road in Jo Daviess County. 62-year-old Francis S. Fons of Chicago, was transported to FHN Memorial Hospital. According to a Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department news release, Fons was westbound when he began to pass on the left side of the road. Fons struck the vehicle of 47-year-old Allen M. Wulff of Lena, Ill., who attempted to veer out of the way. Fons lost control of his vehicle and went off the roadway, striking an embankment. Fons’ vehicle overturned and landed on its wheels in a cornfield, according to the release. Wulff refused treatment at the scene. Fons was cited for failure to reduce speed, improper traffic lane usage and improper passing on the left.
