Two people are dead in officer involved shooting in Dubuque

Two people are dead following an officer involved shooting in Dubuque. Sunday shortly before 1 AM, an officer from the Dubuque Police Department observed a physical fight in front of Odd Fellows bar.  As the officer was exiting his vehicle, an adult male from the fight shot another individual involved in the disturbance with a handgun.  The officer fired his weapon at the offender, who ran into the bar.  Police searched the bar and located the gunman inside suffering from a gunshot wound. Both individuals who were shot were transported to hospitals where they were pronounced deceased. The incident is being investigated by the Dubuque Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The officer involved in the incident has been placed on Critical Incident Leave. The names of those involved are not being released at this time pending family notifications.
