Galena allowing spring open burning this week

The city of Galena will hold a spring open burning period this week. Open burning of yard waste produced on the property is permitted during daylight hours Thursday through Sunday. Burning is prohibited on windy days with sustained gusts of 10 mph or more, and fires should be located a sufficient distance from buildings, vehicles or other exposures to prevent fire spread. Burning must be supervised at all times, and a garden hose should be made available at the burn site if possible. No burning is allowed on city streets.
