PACIFIC, Wis. — A man and woman were arrested after a traffic stop in Columbia County on Sunday night.
According to the news release, a Columbia County deputy pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 51/16 near County Highway P in the township of Pacific just before 7 p.m.
The driver was identified as Niki Hossain, 37, of Portage. Officials said Hossain had a revoked driver’s license because of a prior OWI conviction.
Portage police used a K-9 unit, which was alerted to controlled substances in the vehicle. Officials said a later search revealed a small amount of controlled substances.
Hossain was arrested and taken to jail for operating after revocation.
The passenger, John King, 37, of Madison, had an active felony probation and parole arrest warrant for battery to law enforcement, resisting/obstructing and robbery.
The release said King resisted arrest when the deputy and officers tried to take him into custody.
Officials said he began hitting authorities with his elbows, knees and fists and tried to run away from the scene. The officers deployed a Taser on the man and took him into custody. Both officers suffered minor injuries.
King was arrested and taken to jail for the original felony probation and parole arrest warrants. He also received new charges for battery to a law enforcement officer and resisting/obstructing an officer.
