MILWAUKEE — With hospitals across the state nearly running at capacity, Children’s Wisconsin said it will begin accepting adult patients.
“We expect that we will have patients in the older age group to come to Children’s and we expect that to happen in the next week or so, given the burden of needs affecting our adult health systems right now,” said Children’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mike Gutzeit.
Normally Children’s only treats patients under the age of 19, but the hospital said Monday it has a plan in place to start accepting patients as old as 27.
Health officials expect most of the older patients to be transferred from nearby Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.
