MADISON, Wis. — Deaths from the coronavirus in Wisconsin hit a new daily high as Gov. Tony Evers released a package of proposals to tackle the surging pandemic and health officials cautioned that even when a vaccine becomes available it will be months before most people receive it.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos also outlined Republican priorities Tuesday, but did not release specifics. Evers’ proposals, and the Vos response, came as state and county health officials reported 6,580* more positive COVID-19 cases and an additional 79 deaths.
There have been 2,783* deaths from COVID-19 in Wisconsin and 324,400* cases. More than 72,000 of those cases remain active.
In Dane County, public health officials announced a new order which bans indoor mass gatherings and limits outdoor gatherings to 10 people.
The seven-day positivity rate for new tests by person is at 35.4% as of Tuesday afternoon. That percentage went down slightly after reaching a new all-time high Monday. The seven-day equivalent for total tests by day is at 17.3%.

The state Department of Health Services said 318 more people have been hospitalized. With 11,111 hospital beds throughout the state, 13% of beds remain available for new patients.
DHS officials said 23 patients are admitted to the Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park, up from 19 Monday.
