MADISON, Wis. — Nearly 3,000 people in Wisconsin have died of COVID-19 complications since the start of the pandemic, according to state and county health officials.
There were 67 more deaths reported Friday, bringing the statewide death toll to 2,999*. Health officials said 374 Wisconsinites have died in the past week.
The state Department of Health Services said another 190 people were hospitalized Friday. With 11,284 hospital beds in the state, 14% are available for new patients.
Health officials confirmed 5,807* new cases of the virus in the past day, which is below the seven-day average of 6,254. Wisconsin has reached a lifetime total of 345,741* confirmed cases, and more than 75,000, or 21.9% of those remain active.
According to DHS, the vast majority of counties in Wisconsin have a “critically high” activity level for disease spread.
The seven-day positivity rate for new tests by person has dropped to 31.7%, while the seven-day equivalent for total tests by day is at 14.8%.
