MADISON, Wis. — A Chester Drive couple is back in possession of their luxury vehicle after thieves stole it twice in less than a week.
Police said the vehicle, a Mercedes Benz, was first stolen on Wednesday when it was left outside of the victims’ home with the keys inside. Madison police officers found it parked on Golden Copper Lane with the keys missing on Friday.
The victims used a spare key to drive the vehicle back home where they parked it in the garage, according to an incident report.
Saturday morning, one of the residents discovered that the car was missing again, according to the report. The victims could not figure out how the thieves made it into the locked garage.
Hours after the vehicle was reported stolen for the second time, police found it parked at an apartment complex parking lot on Muir Field Road.
The vehicle was returned to the victims.
