MADISON, Wis. — An elderly woman’s car and purse were stolen while she was donating to a Madison food pantry Wednesday morning, officials said.
The theft happened on the 1400 block of Prairie Road just before 10:30 a.m., according to an incident report.
The 75-year-old victim told police she parked her car on the street and left it unlocked and running. A witness at the scene saw a man in a hooded sweatshirt go into the driver’s seat as the victim headed to the pantry.
Officials said the thief quickly took off while she was making the donation, and her purse in the front passenger seat was also stolen. The 2014 Toyota Camry was last seen going north on Prairie Road.
Police said the woman “was left shaken” and had to call her husband for a ride.
