MADISON, Wis. — The number of new coronavirus cases dropped drastically on Friday following a significant decrease in COVID-19 testing on Thanksgiving.
According to Wisconsin Department of Health Services data, 22,255 people were tested on Thanksgiving, which is the fewest tests in a single day since mid-October.
State and county health officials confirmed 1,245 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday. That’s roughly three-and-a-half times fewer cases than were confirmed on Thanksgiving. In total, 376,220* Wisconsinites have tested positive for the coronavirus.
DHS officials said the seven-day positivity rate declined to 27.8%, while the seven-day equivalent for total tests by day increased slightly to 12.9%.

Of those who have tested positive, 80% have recovered from their infections. DHS officials said there are 70,977 active cases statewide.
Health officials confirmed an additional 10 deaths on Thanksgiving, bringing the state’s death toll to 3,313*.
Throughout the state, 57 people were hospitalized on Thanksgiving. Of the state’s 11,265 hospital beds, 1,929 of them are currently available.
