PORTAGE, Wis. — A 36-year-woman was run over by a truck after attempting to jump out and stop the vehicle from rolling out of control through private parking lots and toward a steep embankment early Saturday morning.
Columbia County Dispatch Center said they received a report of an accident with injuries in the 200 block of W Wisconsin St but discovered it at the 200 block of W Edgewater St. on the walking path next to the Portage Canal.
Portage Police interviewed the victim who reported being run over by the truck located on the scene and determined to accident to be likely caused by mechanical failures.
The victim said she attempted to stop the vehicle but safety mechanisms failed. As a result, the victim, then jumped from the vehicle unsuccessfully and was run over.
The victim was stabilized and transported by Asprius-Divine Savior EMS to a waiting UW Madison Hospital medical helicopter and transported to a regional hospital with an unknown level of serious injuries.
The victim’s current status is not known.
