MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Police Department said Monday that the police officer who was injured in a deadly Sun Prairie crash last week suffered life-threatening injuries during the incident.
According to a Facebook post from the MPD, Jodi Nelson, a 14-year veteran of the MPD, was injured in the crash. Her wife, 48-year-old Julie Nelson, was killed when the couple was struck by a vehicle that went off the roadway after hitting another vehicle on on East Main Street.
Jodi Nelson has reportedly undergone multiple surgeries for injuries she suffered in the incident. Officials said she “has a long road to recovery.”
“This tragic incident has affected many in our community including Jodi and Julie’s family as well as Jodi’s MPD family,” the post reads.
A GoFundMe page was recently started for Nelson’s family.
The Sun Prairie Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating the crash.
