MADISON, Wis. — Portillo’s is looking to open its second Madison location, this time near West Towne Mall.
Portillo’s expanded to Madison early last year when it opened a restaurant outside of East Towne Mall.
Company executives filed paperwork with the city to build a new location at 522 S. Gammon Road. The restaurant would be located in a parking lot of the mall, similar to the east side location.
The proposed restaurant would be around 7800 square feet, contain 178 seats inside and 52 seats outside, according to a letter Portillo’s wrote to the city’s planning division. The new location would also feature a new three-lane drive-thru model, which will help with mobile and online orders.
If you’re not familiar, Portillo’s is best-known for its Chicago-style hot dogs (hold the ketchup!) and Italian beef. The restaurant started off as a hot dog stand in suburban Chicago in the 1960s.
