MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin has officially exceeded a lifetime total of 400,000 COVID-19 cases.
The milestone comes less than three weeks after the state surpassed the 300,000 mark. To date, Wisconsin has reported 400,216* confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, with more than 64,000 of those cases still active.
State and county health officials recorded 4,471* new cases Thursday. Although the seven-day average of new cases per day dropped to 3,595, health care workers are worried a post-Thanksgiving spike is on the horizon.
DHS officials said the seven-day positivity rate for total tests by person has grown to 31.7%, while the rolling average for total tests by day slightly decreased to 13.7%.

Gov. Tony Evers has asked the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to prioritize Wisconsin for the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. He also requested more federal funding for the state’s coronavirus response and vaccination efforts.
With 62 new COVID-19 deaths confirmed Thursday, the statewide death toll has reached 3,651*. The state Department of Health Services said an additional 172 people have been hospitalized. As of Thursday afternoon, 14% of the state’s hospital beds are available.
