MADISON, Wis. — The City of Madison will temporarily place digital signboards on Gammon Road and McKenna Boulevard to remind drivers of new speed limit changes beginning on Dec. 7, 2020.
This is the next stage in Madison’s Vision Zero initiative, a strategy to eliminate traffic deaths and severe injuries by 2030.
Speed limit changes include Gammon Road from Watts Road to Colony Drive from 35 mph to 30 mph and McKenna Boulevard from Raymond Road to Watts Road from 35 mph to 30 mph.
City of Madison officials said that lowering the speed limit even 5 mph helps ensure the safety of all who use the city streets, especially children and people walking or biking.
The city reported 20 injury crashes in 2019 on the 1.3 mile stretch of Gammon Road. McKenna Boulevard from Watts to Raymond Road had an additional 30 injury crashes, seven of which involved people walking or biking.
