MADISON, Wis. — Two Stoughton Road Kwik Trip employees forced a robber out of the store Saturday evening after he tried stealing multiple packs of cigarettes.
Madison police said the man told a store employee he wanted to buy cigarettes, but after they were put in a bag the robber put his hand in his pocket making it look like he was armed with a gun. “I’m going to take these and there’s nothing you can do about it,” the robber said, according to an incident report.
Police said an employee then grabbed the bag of cigarettes and tried taking it from the robber. The bag then ripped, sending four packs of cigarettes to the floor.
According to the report, the employee yelled for another employee, saying they were being robbed. The second employee reportedly saw the robber was not armed with a gun and actually had a bottle of hand sanitizer or lotion. The second employee then grabbed the robber and hauled him out of the store.
Police said the robber was able to hold onto part of the torn bag that still had two packs of cigarettes inside.
Madison police conducted a K-9 track, which led them to Reindahl Park, but they were unable to find the robber.
