BELOIT, Wis. — Beloit police have arrested a man in connection with a Monday morning homicide.
Mario Tucker, 34, has been taken into custody for allegedly shooting and killing a 50-year-old man in the 1000 block of 10th Street around 6:20 a.m.
Police were initially called to the scene for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, police found the victim had suffered a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
According to a news release, Tucker and the victim had a verbal argument before Tucker allegedly shot the victim. Police said people in the area witnessed the homicide and helped police identify Tucker as the suspect.
Beloit Police Department officers located Tucker on the Portland Avenue bridge around 7:45 a.m. and reportedly saw him drop something into the water before he was taken into custody.
Other local agencies helped the BPD search the Rock River for evidence.
