SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The 16-year-old who accidentally shot himself in the head in a movie theater parking lot and the juveniles who were with him at the time will face criminal charges stemming from the Nov. 18 incident.
Police said the 16-year-old was hospitalized after he accidentally shot himself in the head with a stolen handgun. The teen reportedly shot himself while passing the stolen gun to one of the juveniles sitting in the back seat of the vehicle that was stolen in Madison.
Officials said the 16-year-old survived his wounds, but they did not share details about his exact condition.
Sun Prairie police said the 16-year-old will be charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. A 12-year-old male will be charged with burglary while armed and obstructing an officer. Two 14-year-olds will face charges of burglary while armed – party to a crime and obstructing an officer.
Police previously said that the gun the 16-year-old shot himself with was stolen from a vehicle parked in a residential area near the Palace Cinema Movie Theater where the incident happened.
