NORWALK, Wis. — Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man facing multiple domestic abuse allegations Wednesday morning after a nearly two-hour standoff outside the man’s camper.
Law enforcement officials said they received a tip around 6:12 a.m. from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office about a domestic abuse incident that happened overnight. MCSO deputies said they interviewed the victim and developed probable cause to arrest 39-year-old Kenneth M. Sizemore.
Deputies went to the address were Sizemore was believed to be living in a camper inside of a shed. Officials then obtained a search warrant for the shed to arrest Sizemore and search for evidence related to the abuse allegations.
According to a news release, law enforcement officials sent in members of the Monroe County Combined Tactical Unit because they received threats toward law enforcement and received allegations that Sizemore was armed. The MCCTU is a multijurisdictional SWAT team comprised of personnel from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Sparta Police Department, Tomah Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and supported by Sparta Area Ambulance.
Members of the MCCTU tried talking to Sizemore, but he refused to exit the shed.
Crews entered the shed and prepared to use chemical agents in the camper when Sizemore finally surrendered.
Sizemore was subsequently arrested and booked on charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, false imprisonment, strangulation and suffocation, child abuse, felon in possession of a firearm, battery, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.
