MADISON, Wis. — Police are releasing an image of a person suspected of stealing an elderly woman’s car as she donated items to a Madison food pantry.
Th theft happened along the 1400 block of Prairie Road last month. A home surveillance system caught the suspect car thief walking by, police said.
A 75-year-old woman told police she parked her car on the street and left it unlocked and running. A witness at the scene saw a man in a hooded sweatshirt go into the driver’s seat as the victim headed to the pantry.
Officials said the thief quickly took off while she was making the donation, and her purse in the front passenger seat was also stolen. The 2014 Toyota Camry was last seen going north on Prairie Road.
The victim’s car is still missing, according to an MPD report.
